A horace traveling around Asia (for now)

At this book store in Heyrie art village, North of Seoul, They had an exhibition of books and in one case was The Yellow Book, All of them! I was so excited. There were 13 of these published and they were literary magazines, from the turn of the 19th century. The cover art was done by Aubrey Beardsley. He also did the cover of The Savoy, which was another and well I was so happy to see these for the first time in my life.

They gave me a bunch of kids to look after who were bored with sledding, so I took them to ride rides. Here we are on the Rodeo. I love how 70's this one is. Watch for the K girls who work there in cowboy outfits dancing.

Everland is the Korean Disney. It is a sorta big theme park. They have snow sledding and an indoor waterpark and of course rides. We took the kids from school and had a blast.

Rice water tea stuff

there is this stuff served in many a restaurant in Korea that is rice soup/tea stuff. Basically they boil off the burnt on stuck rice and then serve it. Luckily this is free. Very bland.

Last Day on Bali in Ubud

On the last day on Bali we stayed in a swank hotel in Ubud and 'went to town' cause the hotel was way out in the middle of rice terraces. But, the pool was voted one of the top five most beautiful pools in the world by some magazine, and I must agree it was a nice pool.

Mysterious Elephant Cave

This is the mysterious elephant cave. So said they don't know how it came into being, but this is one of the few sites on Bali that have both Hindu and Buddhist shrines. The people were nice, one guy thanked me for visiting Bali, but another lady gave me an offering to place on a shrine, but after I did it she demanded a donation and wouldn't accept a small donation, she had a minimum, so whatever lady!

Here I am walking down a steep, semi-paved path down to a waterfall (two post past) and being amazed at all the coffee, avacado, banana, and clove trees. Nothing too exciting just me ranting about it all.

Here is another temple and well it has gardens and in the gardens are real loud bugs, a muddy river, pretty orchids in the trees (not in plastic pots like at home) 'floating' pagodas and some scary ass slippery walkways.

Driving through the 'monkey forest' we stopped on the side of the road to see some.....yeah, monkeys. They were cute, although I got chased twice and decided it was time for me to sit in the car and wait for the others. Im a wimp.

At this one temple they had some bats hanging around, really big bats, fruit bats, well I got to hold one and they are now my favorite animal, they are cute and fun and sweet. This thing just kept giving me kisses and out of the blue this guy, who handles the bats, puts a toucan on my arm. Very random, but the bat made me happy.

Kecak Dance

Kecak is the most unique Balines dance which is not accompanied by any orchestra/ gamelan
but by a choir of a hundred men. It has it's orgin in an old ritual dance. "Sanghyan" or Trance dance. In which the dancer is a medium and the dietes or ancestors convey their wishes. In the 1930's the epic Ramayana was included into the dance.
This one only had 30 men, which was a wee bit disapointing, but nonetheless amazing.
It was in the movie Baraka also.

Day two in Bali, I woke with Bali Belly® very very icky, but I didn't let it get me down. I kept going and had a great time. Antibiotics are the answer, I will never travel with out them again!

Xmas morning I woke and they weren't serving the usual breakfast, instead they cooked a big breakfast for all the guest, I think about 14 in total. It was really great. Super nice people, if you go to Bali, stay in Sanur at Flashbacks. An inexpensive nice place to stay.

Our plane didn't land until almost 11pm, so by the time we cleared customs and got to the guest house it was late, so the only place open in Sanur for food that late was a sports bar. They played lots of eminem, house of pain and justin timberlake.

I was walking around and was by this gate, which is one of the three or four that was once upon a time a gate to a wall that surrounded Seoul. and well, I saw what I thought were mannequins of traditional guards, but as I was walking closer and closer and looking at my camera and not them I realized they were real people and well it freaked me out. They weren't moving. freaky!

On the subway in Seoul, like the subways all over the world, there are vendors. In Seoul though, they tend to wear suits or at least sport coats. This guy is selling non-stick rubber gloves. Unknown to him though, just prior to his boarding the car, another non-stick rubber glove salesman had just left. Poor guy:(

Last Saturday I went to see Matthew Barney's Drawing Restraint 9. The film wasn't playing when I came to see the exhibition a few weeks ago. The movie was amazing! At the end of a long hiking day, the trail leads us out at Seoul National University. Where the last few miles are somewhat flat, wide avenues filled with hikers and Muzak® pumped into the surroundings. I love this one song which is a surf classic, Im not sure who by. Maybe Dick Dale? How perfectly Korean!(Lynchian?)

On Sunday I went hiking with Young and her mother. Hiking seems to be the national past time for middle aged Koreans. They get all decked out if full on hiking gear with their back packs filled with lunch and many of them this includes the four Soju lunch. Which I think is just crazy, because this is some serious hiking, over some very treacherous rocks near the top! But once you reach the top is several Buddhist Temples and you can meditate and then have lunch. There is free lunch for all who come. It seemed very much like a soup kitchen, except that everyone up there were hikers and none of them homeless. That was way too much work for only a free meal. But so worth it. This is going to come in several parts because I shot a lot.

On Sunday morning I was walking past this seafood shop and their tanks were filled with these ugly dead fish, lots and lots of them. Well, later that afternoon on my way home I saw their 'waste not want not' philosophy full force with all the dead fish on a clothing rack, poles and tree drying! I only wish my camera could record in Odourama® so that I may share the whole experience with you.

Matthew Barney's 'Drawing Restraint' series is being exhibited in Seoul at the Leeum. I got yelled at for trying to take pictures, so many of them came out blurry and the video was shot while the camera was in my pocket. tee hee.
If someone could just give me a good reason WHY I am not allowed to take photos I wouldn't, but they never say WHY, only NO and that just makes me rebel, so it is their own fault!
